A new treatment being developed, called Electrically Accelerated and Enhanced Remineralisation (EAER), is a pain free way to repair cavities without having to use injections to numb the teeth. Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Ronald Konig says that this represents a better approach to restoring decayed teeth as it focuses on rejuvenating natural tooth as opposed to grinding decayed tooth away and placing a filling.Â
The procedure uses EAER to rebuild the decayed part of the teeth as opposed to drilling the decayed part away and filling it. Instead of using fillings, the EAER helps the tooth to repair themselves. An electric current is utilized to push minerals such as calcium and phosphate into the decayed or damaged site. EAER is being developed King’s College London and they report it could be available in three years.
Dental Implant Dentist Dr. Ronald Konig does not think treatment will limited to minor decayed areas where there is sufficient tooth structure remaining. Overall, it seems to be heading in the right directions and we hope that it leads to other regenerative solutions as well so that we can continue to improve the health of our patients.
